Chronicles of Neverael
Four types of dice are used in Chronicles of Neverael.
1. Normal dice: Just what it says. These dice are rolled normally and cost the least. They are a common component in all dice pools.
2. Expert dice: Expert dice are a bit more expensive than normal dice. It costs 1 point to promote a normal die to an expert die. A character may only possess 1 expert die in a skill at a time but may possess more in special powers – each die is set to a different result in cases such as these. Expert dice are set equal to a desired result BEFORE rolling the rest of the dice pool.
3. Master dice: Master dice represent incredible control. They cost 5 points and must be promoted from an Expert die (So a base cost of 6 points). A character may only possess 1 master die in a skill at a time but may possess more in special powers. Master dice are set equal to a desired result AFTER rolling the rest of the dice pool. They ensure a success.
4. Limit dice: Limit dice represent reliable or uncontrollable power. They cost two times whatever the base die costs to upgrade (Buying a LD in Body at character generation would cost 10). LD are usually restricted to special powers or supernatural capabilities possessed by a character. A character may possess up to 10LD in a single stat, skill, or power. A limit die’s result is always equal to 10 and don’t require a roll to use. Buying two LD in a power ensures that it activates each time without fail.
